F-16 Block 70 for Slovakia

The World’s Newest and Most Advanced Production F-16

The F-16 is the world’s most successful, combat-proven multirole fighter – building advanced interoperable capabilities within air forces, enhancing partnerships with allies, and preserving peace around the world.

With more than 3,000 F-16s operating today in 25 countries, the F-16 is interoperable with NATO operational requirements. The F-16 continues to serve as the backbone of the NATO air fleet and allied defense missions, enabling countries to partner with allies to bolster their national and regional defense capabilities and strengthen security ties.

The F-16 Block 70 for Slovakia is the newest and most advanced F-16 configuration. Block 70 capabilities include an advanced datalink, targeting pod and weapons, precision GPS navigation, and the proven, life-saving Automatic Ground Collision Avoidance System.

Block 70 jets also feature a Center Pedestal Display (CPD), which provides critical tactical imagery to pilots on a high-resolution 6”x 8” screen. The high-resolution display allows pilots to take full advantage of AESA and targeting pod data. The new CPD enables color moving maps, larger and easier to manage air-to-air Situation Displays, zoom functionality with the ability to switch information among displays, and a digital display of Flight Instrument Data. New production aircraft and structural/capability upgrades ensure the international F-16 fleet can operate to 2060 and beyond.

Additionally, the F-16 strengthens not only our customers’ defense capabilities, but also the global industrial base. It is produced through capabilities of almost 4,000 suppliers around the world, representing $100B in cumulative program value. Major components are produced in eight countries.

F-16 production at Lockheed Martin’s facility in Greenville, South Carolina, officially began in November 2019. The Greenville production start coincides with significant, growing demand for new production F-16s around the globe. To date, Bahrain, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Taiwan have selected the F-16 Block 70, and Lockheed Martin is in discussions with multiple other partners about new F-16 production opportunities.

Lockheed Martin has produced the F-16 for more than four decades, with the jet flying more than 400,000 sorties for a total of 19 million flight hours. The F-16 is the world’s most successful 4th generation fighter ‒ and still proving it.
